REPORTS FROM CAMP 2010 CLASSES
THEME 2010 INCRDIBLES
Discover Class: This year’s Discover Class was an incredible experience, literally. We went on an amazing adventure with The Incredibles. At first Violet was very shy and didn’t know how to use her powers, but she soon learned that she had amazing abilities and when she became confident in those abilities, she was able to help her brother Dash and the others. Dash was always a step ahead of the competition until he realized that without self-control, too much confidence can get you in trouble. When he learned how to use his powers appropriately, he was able to defeat the enemy. It is important to remember what their mom told Violet and Dash: “Your identity is your most valuable possession. We’re counting on you to be strong. You have more powers than you realize.”
Art/Sketch Class: This year, Sketch Class has been so exciting from learning how to draw stick figures to filling them in with awesome super powers! We experimented with the color wheel using warm tones and cool colors to create complementary masterpieces. Each camper brought a unique creativity and we all shared an incredible love for putting our imagination on paper.
Baking Class: This week in baking class we had a blast! On Monday we mixed veggies with sweetness and produced yummy carrot cake. Tuesday we baked a ton of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, and Wednesday we made a delicious frozen lemonade pie. We finished the week on Thursday with crumbly chocolate chip coffee cake. Great work this week campers!
Crazy Co-Ops: It was so great seeing everyone in Crazy Co-Ops this year. We played the very popular game of Waterballoon Volleyball, which got everyone soaking wet. We also did Scramble Gloves, Water Relays and the Human Knot. All the while we all learned how to work in a team and depend on one another. We can all use the skills we learned long after we leave camp.
Arts and Crafts: What a great week we had at the arts and crafts shelter! On Monday we al made some awesome tye dye shirts and tye dye hands, too! Tuesday we made beautiful string art to share with all our friends. Wednesday we took colored duct tape and transformed it into wallets and bags. Thursday we made musical instruments out of paper tubes, cardstock, rice and beans. Thanks for all your great teamwork this week!
Board Games: It has been such a great week! We have had so much fun playing Pictureke, Uno, Sorry, Apples to Apples, and so many other exciting games. You are all such good sports!
Swimming: You guys are AMAZING. Swimmers!!! Just like Olympians! This week we were speedy minnows flying away from huge sharks! We were great teammates hitting up the volleyball, trying to score points together. You were all winners in our eyes as we leaped, jumped, dove, bombed and splashed our way through the cannonball and splash contests. We have done so many fun things the year.
Science Café: Welcome to the wonderful, wacky, and weird world of Science Café! This week we had an absolute blast with bottle rockets. Along with bottle rockets, we also had fun making colorful silly putty, cool chalk, and fun play-dough. We made a mess but that did not stop us from having a wonderful time.
Games: We kicked off the week, literally, by drilling kick balls clear over the chapel roof and crossing home plate in walk off fashion. Tuesday we all got the chance to drain some threes and show off our sweet dribbling skills on the basketball court. Next, some of us got to improve on what we learned last year and others were able to experience a new sport in Handball. Lastly, many more homers were shared and diving catches made on Thursday during waffle ball.
Photography: We had so much fun this week! We took really great pictures of our friends and things we enjoy. Then we made really awesome scrapbooks with our pictures. You did a wonderful job and I really enjoyed having you in class.
CampOut: At Camp Out we enjoyed camping in the great outdoors. During Camp Out, we made scrumptious s’mores over the campfire. All the melted, gooey, magnificent marshmallow went well with the creamy chocolate and golden graham crackers. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Sleeping out amongst the abundant wildlife in the fantastic forest was a delightful experience. We heard many types of wildlife including chirping crickets, cackling cicadas and the occasional pitter-patter of deer running through the forest. We finished Camp Out by sleeping in and then eating a delicious breakfast that was cooked over the fire.
Nature: This week at camp we blazed the nature trails of Deer Park. We can see the beauty of nature all around us, no matter where we are. We did bark rubbings and leaf rubbings and saw the different textures of the bark and the shapes of the leaves. Keep your eyes and ears open to see and hear things you wouldn’t normally notice, and enjoy what the outdoors has to offer.
Sand Art: Many different colors of sand and many creative ideas were used by campers in Sand Art Class. The excitement level was always high as the participants picked their special bottles and filled them with a variety of bright colored sand. Tapping, filling, tapping and filling right up to the cap, created beautiful and colorful designs. Happy faces and rainbow bottles created a beautiful end result.
